What is the difference between remodeling and renovating?

Technically, renovation and remodeling are defined differently. While a remodel changes the shape of something (such as adding a new shower to an existing bathroom), a renovation focuses more on restoring something old to a good state (fixing a creaky floor, for example). A remodel changes the structure of a room or building. It is more extensive than a renovation and often requires the intervention of architects, store installers and engineers.
