Renovation (also called remodeling) is the process of improving broken, damaged, or obsolete structures. Renovations are usually done in commercial or residential buildings. In addition, renewal can refer to doing something new or bringing something back to life and can be applied in social contexts. For example, a community can be renewed if it is strengthened and revitalized.
It can also mean restoring something to a previous, better state (for example, cleaning, repairing, or rebuilding it). As you can see, in the broadest sense, “renew” means doing something new to revive. When you apply this definition to the world of homebuilding, “reviving” can mean anything from repainting and paneling cabinets to installing new light fixtures or adding other finishes and accessories. Regardless of the task at hand, the original design is never modified in a drastic way.
Rather, it is simply updated or modified to meet a new or revised standard. Technically, renovation and remodeling are defined differently. While a remodel changes the shape of something (such as adding a new shower to an existing bathroom), a renovation focuses more on restoring something old to keep it in good condition (fixing a creaky floor, for example).
